Where to stay in Winnipeg on a budget – La Cabane Guesthouse

On Provencher Boulevard in the French-speaking district of Saint-Boniface, La Cabane Guesthouse is not only within walking distance of the main attractions of Winnipeg, but it presents a unique charm!

This guesthouse is, in fact, half a youth hostel, half bed and breakfast. There are dormitories with only a few comfortable beds and private rooms with one or two beds.

The kitchen, living room, bathrooms and laundry area are common areas where you can quickly meet other travellers. Landscape drawing is still since this establishment is in a typical house in the neighbourhood, it feels more like being at home—yourself or sleeping with friends. Here, no feeling of living in a crowded hostel!

During my visit, I tested the private room with a double bed, breakfast and Wi-Fi included. What a soft mattress and duvet! My only comment is that it may not be a place for the most sensitive to noise, because like in a private residence, you can hear what is happening in the other rooms of the house.

Otherwise, La Cabane Guesthouse proves to be an excellent option to sleep in Winnipeg on a low budget, especially since its staff (and owner!) were amiable (and French-speaking!).

Where to sleep in Winnipeg – Modern twist – Alt Hotel Winnipeg

In the SHED, the Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment District, on the edge of the Exchange District, an area well-positioned for dining and cultural activities, the Alt Hotel Winnipeg is the perfect choice for a modern night Winnipeg.

Though smaller than some other chain hotels (e.g. Calgary ), its lobby remains beautiful with bright red chairs and striking multi-coloured accents. There are 160 rooms, an environmentally friendly design and a gym if you feel like working out. Breakfast is not included, and there is no restaurant in the hotel but next door. We can reach several others in a few minutes on foot. The significant advantage: no checkout time!

For my part, I instead spent time in the room enjoying the large shower, the cosy bed and the view of Winnipeg. To stay at an average price in a beautiful hotel perfect for a stay for two, a business trip or a comfortable sleep, the Alt Hotel Winnipeg remains an excellent trendy choice!

Canadian institutions to consider when looking for hotels to book Winnipeg. Not only did most of the accommodations forge Canada during the development of the railroad. But they also retain a historic charm!

Located in the Exchange District, a stone’s throw from the famous Portage and Main street corner. It is near the bridge to explore Saint-Boniface and next to The Forks, where Winnipeg converges.

You will find all the services there, including the Fairmont Gold Lounge reserved for guests on the floor of the same name. Where it is possible to have breakfast, snack during the day and eat a hearty aperitif at the end of the day, all without additional charges.

It was the second time that I tested this service. It is very appreciated to stock up on coffees, teas, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks for free. At any time of the day and have a space to relax, read, play games outside the bedroom.
