What Things To Pick To Throw The Best Birthday Parties
Get to know how to select decorations, Favors, Activities, and the Cake for a Garden-Themed Birthday Party. If you’re sick of purchasing matching birthday plates and napkins with your child’s favorite cartoon character, consider a more meaningful party theme: the garden. There are other areas of gardening that you may tailor to your child’s personality, such as bugs for those who like all things creepy-crawly and flowers for those who prefer the more refined side of nature.
Party Decorations/Crafts
Encourage your kid to assist in the creation of decorations, which will save money and encourage the reuse of resources around the home. Plus, while your children are engrossed with their artwork, you may be able to get some work done. You and your children may wish to prepare some of these party crafts ahead of time for decorations and to act as samples. You do it so that the children can picture what they’re attempting to accomplish. I suggest buying candle boxes to decorate the whole area in a new but creative manner.
Flowers Made with Tissue Paper
Make sure you have a variety of colored tissue paper and pipe cleaners on hand. Stack 4-6 sheets of tissue paper to construct a flower. They may be cut into rectangles or ovals about 5″ x 7″, or bigger or smaller if desired. This isn’t an exact science, and they’ll be beautiful nonetheless.
Creatures from Egg Carton
Begin gathering paper egg cartons a few weeks before the celebration, soliciting the assistance of friends. Allow one carton for each child. Pipe cleaners (6-8 per creature) and other decorating items like markers, construction paper, googly eyes, glitter, and so on are also required. To prevent problems with sharing, you’ll need a lot of little bottles of glue.
- Cut off 4-6 “cells” of the egg carton to construct a caterpillar. Make pipe cleaner antennae and decorate as desired.
- One “cell” pokes through four pipe cleaner legs on each side to make a spider.
- Three “cells,” six pipes, cleaner legs, and two antennae may be used to make an ant.
- When youngsters start designing their own bugs, the real fun begins!
Favors
I’m not a fan of the gift bag filled with cheap plastic trinkets that will wind up in a landfill the following week. Here are some suggestions for practical, meaningful garden-themed party favors:
Seeds:
Choose seeds that can be planted right away and are likely to appeal to children, such as rutabaga seeds.
Kids’ gardening tools or gloves:
If you’re really on the ball, you got them on significant clearance at the end of last year. At Target, I found gorgeous red wooden-handled trowels for $1 apiece, original price!
Plants:
This is what I did for my son’s 4th birthday celebration. I bought a number of miniature clay pots from Hobby Lobby and pre-planted each with a blooming pansy plant. I gave the kids paint pens, which were inexpensive but really simple to use. So, they could customize their own pots: a craft and a favor in one!
Birdhouses:
For my son’s third birthday celebration, I purchased a number of $1 birdhouses from Hobby Lobby, which each child then painted. Another fantastic craft/favor combination!
Games
If you plan on performing a variety of crafts during your party, you may not need any additional scheduled activities. Here are some garden-themed party game suggestions.
You can pick many typical birthday party games that you can modify to suit the garden theme you’re looking for, such as pin the bee on the flower. Pin the tail on the donkey; for example, pin the bee on the flower. Simply make a giant cardboard “bee” for blindfolded children to pin or paste onto a larger paper “flower” on the side of your home.
Frog toss:
This game also functions as a craft. Provide smooth enough (child’s) palm-sized stones for each youngster, as well as paint pens for decorating. You’ll need a lot of it. If you want to be really fancy, you may pre-paint the stones green with weatherproof paint and glue them on googly eyes (using waterproof glue.) The youngsters can then use the paint pens to add decorations, preserving your green paint pens and potentially your sanity.
Then, on the bottom of a plastic kiddie pool, you paint lily pads with flowers (using permanent waterproof markers or paint.) When the pool is dry, you fill it with water, and the kids throw their “frogs” into it, hoping to land on a “lily pad.” The first person to hit one receives a reward. Of course, everyone has the opportunity to attempt till they succeed!
The Dessert
This is your big opportunity to bake a “dirt” cake: that repulsive-looking confection of chocolate sandwich cookie crumbs and gummy worms served in a clean clay pot. There are many options for doing this:
You may either serve from one or two big (clean) clay pots or prepare individual mini desserts in little 2-inch pots. Then, decide whether to bake a cake (or cupcakes) directly in the pot(s) or to serve a gooier trifle-like dessert of layered chocolate pudding and chocolate cookie crumbs. Gummy worms, of course.
There are several recipes for this on the internet, but here’s what it comes down to:
Make careful to block the drainage hole in whatever size pot you’re using! I lined the bottoms of my pots with aluminum foil, which worked well.
I cooked cakes straight in brand new 8-inch clay pots that I properly scrubbed before using. Also, I simply followed the recipe’s mixing instructions. Also, I poured the batter into the clean, well-greased pots I’d lined with foil to cover the drainage holes. I reduced the oven temperature by 25 degrees since I didn’t want the exterior to overcook before the middle was done. When the packaging was instructed, I began checking for doneness by putting a toothpick into the middle, but it clearly took a little longer. Also, I prefer to have candles boxes that I can use on cakes and for decorations.
The Final Thought
To conclude, I inserted a slew of synthetic flowers, which are much simpler to handle than genuine ones. If you do try to use real flowers, avoid florist flowers since they usually have the chemicals that you don’t want near your cake. You should definitely take them out shortly after the birthday song, so flowers don’t wilt depressingly.
